An easy and tasty version of chicken parmesan where you simply throw the chicken, marinara sauce, cheese and breadcrumbs into a pan and bake!

ingredients
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (link) (or oregano)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (link)
  • 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon basil, thinly sliced
directions
  1. Place the chicken in a baking dish and season with the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper.
  2. Spred the marinara sauce over the chicken before sprinkling on the cheeses and the mixture of the melted butter, garlic powder, oregano and breadcrumbs.
  3. Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until the chicken is cooked through (165F), about 25-35 minutes, before sprinkling on the basil and enjoying!

Note: The bake time will depend on the size of the chicken breasts; if you use large chicken breasts, it may take longer; use a meat thermometer to make sure that the chicken reaches 165F. If the topping looks like it is getting too dark, cover with foil.
Option: Use store bought marinara sauce to save time.
Option: Serve over pasta, or rice, gnocchi, mashed, etc.
