
Baked Chicken Parmesan

An easy and tasty version of chicken parmesan where you simply throw the chicken, marinara sauce, cheese and breadcrumbs into a pan and bake!
ingredients
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (link) (or oregano)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 cups marinara sauce (link)
- 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon basil, thinly sliced
directions
- Place the chicken in a baking dish and season with the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper.
- Spred the marinara sauce over the chicken before sprinkling on the cheeses and the mixture of the melted butter, garlic powder, oregano and breadcrumbs.
- Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until the chicken is cooked through (165F), about 25-35 minutes, before sprinkling on the basil and enjoying!
Note: The bake time will depend on the size of the chicken breasts; if you use large chicken breasts, it may take longer; use a meat thermometer to make sure that the chicken reaches 165F. If the topping looks like it is getting too dark, cover with foil.
Option: Use store bought marinara sauce to save time.
Option: Serve over pasta, or rice, gnocchi, mashed, etc.
